OpenDNS: 30 million users around the world!

30 Million Users

It's official: OpenDNS now has more than 30 million users around the world. That means we serve up more DNS than even the largest Internet Service Provider. It means we make the Internet safer, faster and more reliable for hundreds of thousands of households, 1 in 3 U.S. schools, hundreds of global enterprises (including some of the world's largest companies) and numerous other people and organizations. This colossal landmark is a testament to the unsurpassed quality of service OpenDNS provides, but also the world's growing demand for a better DNS service and Internet security that actually works.

Thanks a million to each of you for helping us get here. Our promise: Whether it's the speed, reliability or safety features that you love, we'll continue improving OpenDNS and delivering innovations in ways that make your Internet increasingly better. As always, if you have feedback, we'd love to hear.

OpenDNS + D-Link = A safer Internet for people everywhere

D-Link is one of the world's leading providers of wireless routers. Their devices are in use in homes around the world, and in fact, chances are pretty good you're using a D-Link to connect to the Internet at home today. Which is why we're thrilled to partner with the company and deliver OpenDNS directly through D-Link routers.

New model D-Link consumer routers now come with OpenDNS parental controls built-in, providing the absolute easiest and most effective way to protect every Internet-connected device in your home. The partnership means setting up OpenDNS on a D-Link is now as easy as checking a box when setting up your router, and instantly protecting your laptops, desktops, iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Xboxes, Wiis, Playstations and more.

Combined with our existing partnership with the other leading wireless router provider, NETGEAR, it's now easier than every before to set up OpenDNS!

Missed the party? Scenes from an epic celebration

Fun at the OpenDNS Party

Marking five innovation-filled years of OpenDNS, our employees, customers and community members joined at the Old Mint in downtown San Francisco to toast past success and a very bright future. Guests were greeted with OpenDNS specialty cocktails, delicious eats and an all-star crowd full of tech industry royalty. (Even the man credited as a creator of the DNS, Paul Vixie himself, made an appearance.)

We loved meeting all of you who were able to attend. For those of you who missed out, check out the pictures and start planning your 2012 trip to San Francisco to join for next year's celebration. It really was that awesome.

Traffic Monitor

There's no question — OpenDNS engineers are elite. In addition to keeping our global DNS network up 24/7 and ensuring zero downtime over five years, many of them have awesome side projects. And there's one in particular we couldn't wait to share. To visually demonstrate OpenDNS traffic across all global datacenters, our own Dima Kumets created an exceptionally cool monitoring station out of birch plywood, gauges, LED drivers and an arduino, using his favorite art form — laser cutting. The result, which made its initial debut over on Dima's blog, is nothing short of fantastic.

Follow Dima's progress and see the ultimate DNS monitoring station on the OpenDNS blog.

PS — We're growing like gangbusters and hiring in all departments. Come work with Dima, get your hands dirty on a craft project or two, and help make the Internet better for millions around the world.

Vote on a domain in August and win a Golden Ticket

The OpenDNS Domain Tagging system represents the best of people-powered security: Community members from around the world work together to efficiently and accurately categorize the Internet's content so OpenDNS users can easily allow the sites they want on their networks, and block the ones they don't.

OpenDNS is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by planting 56 Golden Tickets in the Domain Tagging System that are redeemable for awesome OpenDNS prizes. All you have to do is vote on a domain in August for a chance to win.

There's no limit to the number of domains you can vote on, so the more you vote the better your chances of finding a winner. The best part about this contest: The more domains you help categorize, the safer you're making the Internet for homes like yours.
